CALLED TO BUILD
Over the last twelve years The Grove has deeply valued the relationship that’s been built with the local community and the ways in which God has led us to serve families and individuals. The Grove currently meets in the Ferny Grove Primary School Hall which is a wonderful venue and provision for Sunday services. However, without a permanent church building, the expansion of the community focused programs for children, youth and adults is limited.
In December 2016, The Grove lodged a Development Application with the Brisbane City Council to construct a church ministry centre at 131 Upper Kedron Road. The three story design includes a 400 seat auditorium, foyer and deck on the main floor, a youth and children’s centre on the lower floor, and a small upper floor for administration office spaces and meeting rooms.
In October 2018, we were overjoyed to receive approval on our application for which we praise God.
In 2019 we are thrilled to announce that construction will begin in November and completion in September 2020.
The building of a church facility at 131 Upper Kedron Road will enable The Grove Baptist Community Church to expand its services for the church and local community. The building will also provide a high quality and safe environment for children’s, youth and families’ activities.
The main auditorium will be used for Sunday services, and special events such as Easter and Christmas services. It’s multipurpose design will also provide room for large events such as mens and ladies breakfasts, special functions and dinners, youth events, conferences and ceremonies (e.g. weddings and memorials).
The lower level is dedicated completely to youth and children as a deliberate investment into our community’s next generation and families. The spaces will provide for our ministries including Mainly music, Grove Youth, Grove Kids, parents spaces, creche and a playground.
The extra meeting rooms, administration centre and hospitality areas create functional spaces to care for and welcome people, for meetings and training events, and for people to connect with each other and build community.
The property’s location at the back of the High School and adjacent to the sport’s fields connects it to other community services in the area. We pray the new church building on the hill will be a physical expression of the hope, light and life found in Jesus for everyone.
The Grove Baptist Community Church was planted by Bridgeman Baptist Community Church in 2007. At the time of commencement, the growing areas of Ferny Grove and Upper Kedron had no churches of any denomination within them. After much prayer and God’s leading, The Grove heard the call to purchase land and build the first church ministry centre in our community for the current and future generations. It was a providential moment in our history when we were led to explore 131 Upper Kedron Road, Ferny Grove as a location. Then in 2012 by the grace of God and the generosity of many in the church community, The Grove was able to purchase the property for the purpose of one day constructing a home for ministry.
